War on Drugs, Stress Management, Credit Scams – Don’t Miss this Issue of Living Safer

magazine for familiesAs a comprehensive settlement planner, I work with families every day. Sometimes, our conversations naturally turn to topics that have little to do with their settlement and financial plan. I find out about their children and relatives, what’s on their mind, what their concerns are. This deeper connection I make with my clients is one of the biggest reasons I love being part of Living Safer magazine. Each issue is jam-packed with timely and important topics that affect families all over the country.

In the newest edition of the magazine, our country’s war on drugs is the cover story. Earlier in the summer, we posted about the addiction risks associated with opioid drugs, which include commonly prescribed painkillers such as OxyContin, Vicodin, codeine, and morphine. Many of our clients continue to take opioid medication for their pain long after their lawsuit has resolved, and unfortunately, the risk of addiction is a serious possibility.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Author Bryan Silver explains that opioid addiction is often called an “epidemic” because it does not discriminate — people from all walks of life are struggling with it. The article offers some staggering statistics and a few tips for parents to help keep their teens away from the dangers of opioids and other drugs.

In “Saving for Your Kids’ Education.” I explain why I think every parent owes it to their child to make him or her think about how to pay for college. Expecting children to strive for a scholarship or apply for loans is a great entrance into the world of finances. I make a few recommendations for parents who are thinking about saving and starting these conversations, which I hope readers find useful.

Here are a few more articles in this issue of Living Safer:

  • Protecting Your Child from a Concussion,
  • The Latest CTE Study and What It Means,
  • The Simple, Yet Surprising, Signs of Breast Cancer,
  • How to Order Healthier Fast Food Meals, and much more

Like I tell my clients: When we are well-informed, we’re able to make the best decisions possible for our families. Feel free to pass this magazine on to anyone who might find the articles useful.
