2016 Women En Mass: Four Years of Promoting the Success of Women

Comments Off

Gender diversity in the field of law is increasing. It’s no secret that the growth in collaboration among the nation’s female lawyers is changing the landscape in a positive way.

Female Leadership in the Legal Profession

Elizabeth J. Cabraser of Lieff Cabraser was appointed to serve as lead class counsel in the multi-district litigation (MDL) against automaker Volkswagen over its use of software cheats to commit emissions fraud. In a pretrial order, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer noted Ms. Cabraser’s “…extensive experience with multi-district litigation” and “…leadership positions in 17 different MDLs, including several that involved automobile defects.”

Research by Sheryl Axelrod, founder of the women-owned Axelrod Firm, shows that Fortune 500 Companies with the most women on their boards outperform those with the least by a 66 percent return on invested capital (ROI), 42 percent return on sales, and 53 percent return on equity. She says that corporate America is responding to these statistics and are looking at their boards more carefully.

The list of women’s outstanding legal work and advocacy goes on and on. That’s why it’s so critical to provide opportunities to develop solutions to shrink the gender gap in the field of law and beyond.

Promoting Gender Diversity in Law

This year’s Women En Mass – a who’s who in mass tort litigation – will be held in Aspen, and it’s bigger than ever. In a presidential year that’s unprecedented in every way, in which we may see the first woman elected president of the United States, this gathering takes on an even bigger mantle in our nation’s civil justice system.

gender diversity in lawWomen En Mass is hosted by the organizations’ founders, Aimee Wagstaff of Andrus Wagstaff. The event “… brings together the best and brightest female mass tort attorneys to discuss issues that affect women – from the boardroom to the courtroom.”
