Best All-in-One: Evernote

Sure, Evernote has been around for years, but seriously, this note-keeping application keeps getting better. Their integration with other apps is indispensable, and everything users create, capture and keep is accessible from all their devices. Create a project to-do list, write reminders, snap pictures, and then easily share what you’ve captured.

One of the most valuable Evernote products is its Scannable app, which uses your device’s camera to capture something on paper and turn it into a high-quality, sharable scan. And, unlike other scanning apps for mobile devices, Scannable is free, free, free.

Best Research Extension: Bestlaw

Bestlaw is a browser extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox that pays attention to lawyers’ browsing patterns on Westlaw or Lexis. Users can copy Bluebook citations, titles, docket numbers, and full text with one click, expand and collapse statutory sections, jump between footnotes and the main text, and much more.

Best On-the-Go App: Duet

A lot of us are used to sporting the dual monitors at the office, and statistically we get more done. Having a second display increases productivity by 20 to 30 percent, according to The New York Times’ report of a Jon Peddie Research survey.

Traveling away from your desk no longer means reducing your work screen to just your laptop. The application Duet allows users to turn their iPhone or iPad into an additional display screen for their desktop computer. The app connects via a Lighting or 30-pin cable, and it’s compatible with all iPhones and iPads with iOS 7.0 and above and all desktops and laptops with at least OS 10.9 or Windows 7.

Best Productivity Tool: ActiveWords

ActiveWords turns words into commands on users’ computers. In Microsoft Word, for example, a specified “active word” can populate formatted text into a new document. ActiveWords can open files and folders, webpages, and applications, and take on just about any other task a person may need to do on the computer.

Multiple devices? You don’t have to start over establishing commands with each device. ActiveWords Sync allows users to use most cloud services like OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive to automatically sync data between their devices.
