PressRush: A Customizable Tool for Media Outreach

A big part of growing a law firm or other business involves sharing your work and milestones with the public. But any business owner who has tried cold calling reporters knows that getting in the news that way isn’t easy. Putting the right story or information in the right hands can be tricky when it’s not clear exactly whom to contact. How can we reach the writers who specialize in covering our particular industry?

Press Rush LogoEnter PressRush, an online tool that takes the guesswork out of connecting the best journalists with your message at the right time. PressRush provides customizable searches as well as media monitoring and a means to send pitches and find out who opened your email.

Milestone found out about PressRush through Tom Young’s presentation at this year’s Radius of Influence conference. Then, when we recently received approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services to assist 1983 Beirut bombing victims, we used PressRush to get the word out. We were able to perform searches and obtain information about the right reporters who had already published text about similar topics.

The site’s software provides all relevant information in a single view. Pitching to journalists was easy – PressRush allows users to send a pitch directly from the site. When we reached out to writers, we were sure our press release was going into the hands of the reporters who were most likely to pick up our story and write about it. We could even track who opened our message and clicked our links.
