In the Face of Grief, Family Honors Daughter with Foundation

Comments Off

Lara D. Gass was a bright young woman with a promising future. Well on her way through law school, she was a vibrant and caring member of her community and a driven, involved student. The Dean of Washington & Lee University described Lara as “… a humble and compassionate person, and, on top of that, she was truly magnetic.”

Tragically, Lara passed away in March 2014 at the age of 27 as a result of a preventable vehicle accident on her way to work as an intern for a federal judge. Her car was one of many General Motors vehicles that were part of a recall for a defective ignition switch that could shut off power and disable power steering, brakes and airbags.

livelikelaraAfter Lara’s death, her family established the LiveLikeLara Foundation, which promotes charities, activities, and causes for which this exceptional young woman was most passionate. Through fundraising, grants, and donations, the Foundation has been able to support efforts including Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, the Lara D. Gass Memorial Law Scholarship at Washington & Lee University, Clarksville Old Firehouse Day Shelter, the Lara. D. Gass Women in the Law Symposium, The Innocence Project, and so much more.

No parent should ever experience the devastation of losing a child. Philanthropy and providing the resources for a living memory are often goals in settlement planning and cases involving the death of a loved one. We at Milestone Consulting commend Lara’s family for their strength and courage to establish such an outstanding foundation in their daughter’s memory.
