It’s undeniable that activism for women’s equality is experiencing a resurgence and a re-fueling by movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp. However, the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report found that the gender gap is actually widening globally. Analyzing 144 countries show us that gender parity is still 217 years away. So while it may seem like we’re making progress in the U.S., on a worldwide scale we still have A LOT to do.
But yes, we should definitely take advantage of the momentum we have right now. This year, there is a new campaign to #PressForProgress. The campaign lists several ways you can commit to treating every day like it’s International Women’s Day. While we all want to do everything we can all the time, it is helpful to find an area of focus. On the IWD site, you can commit to concentrate on one of the following:
- Maintain a gender parity mindset
- Challenge stereotypes and bias
- Forge positive visibility of women
- Influence others’ beliefs and actions
- Celebrate Women’s Achievements
Here at Milestone we will be celebrating our female employees all month long. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for profiles on different women on the team.
