Below is a letter from Rachel Mathews, Executive Director of the Bairs Foundation.
Our small foundation has just finished its second year of operation, and we are amazed by what we have been able to accomplish. Though we are based in Buffalo, we have helped families in almost all 50 states by providing financial support to cover basic living expenses while they go through litigation. The Bairs Foundation has fulfilled more than 200 requests for funding, giving out over $1.6 million to pay for essentials like rent, groceries, medical care, and transportation for men and women of all ages, races, and socioeconomic statuses.
However, we have had to turn down more than 320 requests for support, and one of the reasons for that is the limited amount of funding we have available. Like most nonprofits, our greatest challenge is raising money. The need for our services is clear – tragedy can happen to anyone at any time, and without a safety cushion of cash saved away, a family could quickly be in dire straits. That’s why we’re reaching out to you.
On March 8, 2019, we will be holding our annual fundraiser at Loft@Thin Man Brewery Chandler Street in Buffalo, NY. As cabin fever sets in, we are going to host a party to raise awareness of what we do and the people we serve, and to raise much-needed money so we can continue to fulfill our mission. I ask that you join us in enabling injured individuals to go the distance with their lawsuit and to reach the justice they deserve, by lightening their financial burden while they are coping with their tragedy.
Individual attendance to our cabin fever party is $125.00 (and as a charitable contribution, it is tax deductible to the full extent of the law). Admission includes:
- Open bar with an array of freshly brewed Thin Man drafts, wine, and cult brand spirits
- Hors D’oeuvres station to include assorted cheeses, charcuterie, seasonal fruit, crudites with dips, ‘Barrel & Brine’ pickles, and fresh baked pretzels with beer cheese & other dips
- Carving station with Strip Loin of Beef and herbed Turkey Breast
- The musical stylings of DJ Johnny Buns on the turntables
Loft@Thin Man Brewery is located at 166 Chandler Street, a former industrial area that is soon to be the next big thing. Come check out the brand new space!
At the Bairs Foundation, our approach is innovative. We are the only nonprofit in the country doing the work that we do. If you have any questions about our mission to keep families out of poverty while they seek justice, I am just a phone call away at (716) 883-1833.
The Bairs Foundation exists because people like you share a vision of a more equitable and compassionate society, understand the importance of a strong civil justice system, and care enough to support those efforts.
On behalf of the hundreds whose lives your philanthropy touches, I thank you.
