As legal professionals interacting with members of our community on a daily basis, we understand how important it is to act as a responsible member of that community. That’s why we’re so proud to have pledged to follow the Safe Driving Initiative that’s recently been rolled out by the American Association for Justice.
This program was developed by an esteemed member of the AAJ, Joel Feldman, who (along with his wife, Diane Andersen) launched the End Distracted Driving (EndDD) campaign after he tragically lost his daughter to an accident with a distracted driver. Rather than succumb to the monumental sadness of that loss, Feldman and Andersen have devoted themselves to doing everything in their power to prevent similar tragedies from unfolding.
EndDD is a cornerstone of AAJ’s Trial Lawyers Care (TLC) initiative, a suite of special programs that tout the community service of trial attorneys nationwide who have pledged time, service, and money to make a positive impact in their communities.
Obviously, distracted driving is a problem on the rise, but that doesn’t mean that nothing can be done. Through EndDD, Joel worked with scientists and traffic safety experts who specialize in behavior change theory and teen persuasion to develop a special presentation that’s specifically engineered to convey the very real dangers of distracted driving.
As of this writing, hundreds of trial attorneys have volunteered to deliver this presentation at their local schools and community groups, imparting this invaluable message to more than 225,000 impressionable young minds.
At Milestone, we want to play our part. We launched our own Safe Driving Policy last year after seeing the impact that the adoption of a similar initiative had on the Massachussets Assocation of Trial Attorneys. With the recent introduction of the AAJ’s Safe Driving Initiative, we feel stronger than ever that this is the best way to impact our communities. It is our hope that everyone (law firms, businesses, families, etc.) sees the value in ending distracted driving and takes the proactive steps to help drive change in their community.
